Next month is going to be amazing for the Astronomers from Asia and Africa. They will witness a rare astronomical event this month, which is going to happen on the evening of 25th July.

There will be multiple lunar occultations this year, which occur when the moon moves in front of a bright object and blocks its view, and a rare occultation will occur on July 24, which is the Lunar occultation of Saturn. The Moon will pass in front of Saturn and this occultation will be visible from Asia and Africa.

Although the occultation is only visible in some parts of the world – because the Moon is close to the Earth and its position in the sky varies by up to two degrees around the world – the close conjunction between the two will be more widely visible.

From where will it be visible?

The major question is “Will it be visible from India”? And the answer is “Yes”

The map below shows the visibility of occultation around the world.

The lunar occultation is visible only from a small area of the Earth’s surface. Since the Moon is closer to the Earth than other celestial bodies, its position in the sky will be different depending on your location on the Earth due to the large parallax.

How to see this Lunar Occultation?

If this event is happening at your location then, you can observe this through your naked eyes. But for a better view, I would prefer a decent Telescope to use during this event. It will help you maximize your Magnification and will also give a better and detailed look of this Lunar Occultation of Saturn.

Some of the beginner Telescopes that you can buy to witness this rare event are listed below:-

  1. Celestron PowerSeeker 50AZ Telescope: https://amzn.to/4b8gE88
  2. Pullox 76Az Power Reflector Astronomical Reflecting Telescope: https://amzn.to/4b7dzW4
  3. FotoCart 114EQ Telescope High Power Telescope: https://amzn.to/3z0jhLR
  4. Celestron Astromaster 130EQ Telescope: https://amzn.to/3KND183

You can use any of these scopes to capture this beautiful Astronomical Event.
