Mars near Neptune! A great opportunity to capture Neptune! Read More…

Neptune is going to appear near Mars. It will be a great event to see as you will be able to spot Neptune near Mars with 230x to 250x Magnification. Here is everything you need to know about this Astronomical Event.

Planet Mars and Neptune Conjunction

Neptune near Mars!

The Mars-Neptune conjunction on April 29 is an astronomical event in which Mars and Neptune will be closest in the sky from our perspective. Such a conjunction occurs when two celestial bodies appear in the same longitude; This means they have the same ascension path or are very close. However, it is important to remember that the conjunction is only a visual phenomenon. The two planets are not close to each other in space.

How Planetary Conjunctions happen?

A planetary conjunction occurs when two or more celestial objects appear close together in the sky as viewed from Earth. This apparent closeness is due to the alignment of planets in the same line of sight, orbiting the sun at different speeds.

How to spot this Astronomical Event?

You can easily spot this event by using some sky-mapping apps like Stellarium, Star Walk 2, and others. Just open these apps and point your phone to the sky and try to locate Mars in the Eastern Morning sky of 29 April. You can easily spot Neptune after spotting Mars as they will be close to each other. It will be easy to spot Mars with a Smartphone but you cannot see Neptune along with Mars without a Telescope. Let’s discuss how to capture this event…

How to capture this Astronomical Event?

For capturing this event you cannot use a Smartphone. You’ve to use a Telescope with a medium aperture to capture Neptune with Mars. Here are the steps to capture this conjunction with a Telescope:

SPOTTING: The first step is to spot the object that you’re about to capture. Goto or Automatic Telescopes are easier to operate and you can easily find any object through a Goto Mount but In Manual Telescopes, You’ve to try hard to find the object. Well, you can easily find planets through a Manual Telescope also but the thing is the planet should be as bright as the objects visible through the naked eye as it will make it easier to spot. Use Finderscope to align with Planet Mars.

ATTACH A CAMERA OR SMARTPHONE: For dedicated Astrophotography, there are Astronomy cameras that are available for both Deep Sky and Planetary objects. But these cameras can be quite expensive for you. The best option is to connect a Smartphone to the Telescope using a Smartphone Adapter or you can also use a T-ring to connect a DSLR Camera to the Telescope.

USE HIGH MAGNIFICATION: Use high magnification as both planets will be close to each other. You can capture them even with 230x to 250x Magnification.

TAKE MULTIPLE SHOTS: Adjust the settings of the camera, Set the correct exposure time and ISO, and Take Multiple shots on the device you’ve connected to the Telescope.

POST PROCESSING: Use Pipp, and Autostakkert 4 to stack the pictures of the Planets you’ve taken. Then use Registax 6 and Adobe Lightroom to adjust contrast, brightness, and other settings to enhance the details of the stacked image.

These are the details about the conjunction that is going to happen in the Morning of 29th April 2024. Don’t forget to spot and capture this event through your telescope.
